Since 2006, Ascona Foundation has created opportunities for young people, adults and communities in Suriname through sport, education and business development.
We support talent on the playing field, learning in and beyond the classroom, and entrepreneurship within local communities. Our goal is not only to inspire people, but also to provide the knowledge, structure and practical support they need to move forward.

From Amsterdam to Coronie
A Journey of Dignity: Bringing Comfort Back to Huize Lunor
In the heart of Coronie, far away from the busy streets of the city, stands a place built on compassion, commitment, and community: Huize Lunor.
For years, this home has provided shelter, care, and dignity to some of Coronie’s most vulnerable residents. Behind its doors live elderly men and women who have spent their lives building families, communities, and the district we all cherish today. They deserve comfort, safety, and the feeling that they are not forgotten.
One of the driving forces behind this mission is Mrs. Joan Wielzen, whose dedication to the residents of Huize Lunor has inspired many. Through years of perseverance and care, she has continued to fight for better living conditions for the elderly, often overcoming challenges with limited resources but an unlimited heart.
Today, a new chapter is unfolding.
Thanks to generous donors and partners, a number of hospital beds have already been secured and are waiting in Paramaribo. These beds will dramatically improve the comfort, safety, and quality of care for the residents of Huize Lunor. What may seem like a simple bed to some represents dignity, rest, easier caregiving, and a better quality of life for someone who has earned it.
Yet one final obstacle remains.
The beds still need to make the long journey from Paramaribo to Coronie. Transport, logistics, handling, and delivery all require funding before the project can be completed. It is the final step of the journey but often the most challenging one.
That is where Ascona Foundation steps in.
At Ascona Foundation, we believe that real change happens when people come together for a shared purpose. We believe that every generation deserves care, respect, and opportunities to live with dignity. Supporting Huize Lunor is not simply about moving beds from one location to another. It is about moving hope. It is about showing our elders that they matter.
Over the coming weeks, we will share more of this journey. You will see where the residents live today, the challenges caregivers face, the arrival of the beds, and ultimately the transformation that follows when these much-needed improvements become reality.
The story is still being written.
Soon, the beds will begin their journey westward. Soon, the residents of Huize Lunor will experience a new level of comfort. Soon, we hope to share photographs of smiles, gratitude, and lives improved.
